Breast Reduction The Woodlands

Breast Reduction The WoodlandsDisproportionally large breasts tend to be a burden for women. They cause issues such as neck pain, back pain, shoulder pain, muscle stiffness, rashes beneath the breasts, and poor posture. They can also create discomfort during many activities and make it difficult to find properly fitting clothing. Happily, large breast size can be safely reduced with reduction mammoplasty, or breast reduction surgery.

Breast Reduction Surgery Consultation

Breast reduction is a major surgery, so a proper consultation should be conducted before getting it done. Your consultation will involve an evaluation of your breasts, along with a discussion of your desires and goals as a client. A woman’s breasts are a major part of her life, and a breast reduction can feel like a dramatic change. Because of this, an in-depth discussion will be had with the client in the pre-operative consultation.

As part of your breast evaluation, the composition of the breasts will be checked. When the excess breast tissue is mostly fat, the surgeon may perform liposuction along with a breast lift to reduce the breasts in volume. When more glandular breast tissue is involved, surgical excision will be necessary.

What Happens During the Breast Reduction Procedure?

Breast reduction, like all other aesthetic procedures, is a highly customized process, because it depends on the client’s aesthetic needs and goals in regard to their breasts. Your surgeon will help you ascertain the size that’s most proportionate to your height and weight.

After the administration of general anesthesia, an incision is created. It can be made in two concentric circles around a patient’s areola for a smaller amount of breast reduction. Another option is a lollipop shape extending down to the breast crease, which provides a moderate amount of reduction. It can also be made as an anchor-shaped incision for a larger amount of reduction.

The next step is removal of excess tissue. Skin, glandular, and fatty tissue can all be removed. The breast is reduced in volume and reshaped.

The nipple-areolar complex can be repositioned and resized to fit the new proportions of the breast. In these cases, it is still connected to the original blood supply. Only in the case of extremely large breasts are nipples completely removed and repositioned.

Following this, incisions are closed using fine medical sutures. The post-surgical scars are well camouflaged and may fade with proper care. They are also covered by undergarments.

Breast Reduction Post-Surgical Care

The recovery time involved with this procedure is typically directly proportional to the amount of tissue removed. A degree of temporary bruising and swelling is normal, and wearing a post-surgical support bra or elastic bandage will aid in the reduction of these issues.

It will be necessary to take time off of work, usually around seven to fourteen days, in order to let your tissues start to heal and recover. You should be able to return to strenuous activity in about six weeks. Once your recovery is complete, you will have lighter breasts and a better quality of life because of it.
