Botox for excessive underarm sweating The Woodlands
What Is Botox For Excessive Underarm Sweating?
Some clients experience excessive underarm sweating that is not controllable with antiperspirants alone. This is called primary axillary hyperhidrosis. Botox can be injected into the armpit and can result in a decrease in sweating by as much as 80-90%.
Who Benefits From Botox Treatment For Excessive Sweating ?
Clients that most often benefit from this non-surgical procedure are those that have excessive underarm sweating that has been refractory to trying different types of antiperspirants. This treatment is especially useful for clients that live in hot, humid areas such as The Woodlands, Texas and Houston, Texas. Males and females can both be treated for this condition using this modality.
Botox Procedure For Excessive Underarm Sweating
For excessive underarm sweating, Botox will be injected in each armpit in a grid pattern. The injections are not very painful as very small needles are used and the injections are not very deep. At The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery, the plastic surgeon does all of the Botox injections. This is not the case in a large majority of other practices. The in-office procedure will take about 20 minutes.
Post-Operative Care Botox Treatment
After the injections, some redness and swelling can occur in the underarm area. This goes away quickly. Some bleeding can occur but this is usually very mild. If bruising occurs, it will resolve in a couple of weeks but it will be in an area that is already well hidden.
Strenuous activity should be avoided for the remainder of the day that your injections are performed. You can return to work the same day and can return to full activity the following day.
Botox is considered a preventative treatment for excessive underarm sweating. Results can last anywhere from four to 12 months. Botox injections will need to be repeated when the effect is starting to wear off.
Potential Complications Botox Treatment
Botox injections are a very low risk in-office procedure. Potential complications can include redness and swelling. Mild bruising can also develop. Other rare complications are possible and will be discussed with you during your consultation.
