Kybella® for Double Chin The Woodlands

What is Kybella for double chin?

Kybella, also known as deoxycholic acid, is a medication that is injected in the office to improve the appearance and profile of the chin and jaw line by addressing the fat below the chin. This fat is called “submental fat” and is also known as the “double chin”. The medication, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body, breaks down fat and results in it being absorbed by the body.

Who benefits

Clients that most often benefit from this non-surgical procedure are those with moderate to severe fat deposits (double chin) below the chin. These clients are typically those that want to address this problem in a non-surgical manner.

Kybella procedure for double chin

If the client is an appropriate candidate for the procedure, the double chin will be numbed with a topical numbing agent. The area will then be cleaned. Anatomic markings will be placed followed by a skin grid that shows the surgeon where to place the injections. The injections will be performed in the areas that need treatment. Unlike many other practices, in our practice, the plastic surgeon will be doing the injections. The in-office procedure will take about 25 minutes.

Post-operative care

After having Kybella injected for the double chin, some common side effects can include swelling of the area, redness, some tenderness, numbness, and bruising. In the initial study, 81% of these side effects were mild in nature.

Clients should avoid strenuous activity for the remainder of the day, should not lie flat for several hours, and should not massage the area. You can return to work the same day if you need to. Most clients will start to see results after two to four treatments.

Potential Complications

Kybella injections are a low risk procedure if done by a qualified individual who understands head and neck anatomy well. Potential major complications can include marginal mandibular nerve injury, which can affect movements of parts of the face, most notably the “smile” muscles. Also, in individuals that have difficulty swallowing, these injections can make this worse. Other potential complications will be discussed during your initial consultation. Most clients see visible results in two to four treatments spaced at least one month apart.

Jeffrey G. Lind II, MD and The Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery offer luxurious, personalized care for Kybella clients looking to treat their double chin in The Woodlands and Houston, Texas area.
