Actinic keratosis

Actinic keratosis is characterized by rough, scaly lesions that develop on the skin. They are usually seen in older adults and occur from years of sun exposure and sun damage. They most commonly develop on the face, lips, ears, hands, arms, scalp, or neck. A very small percentage of these lesions can turn into skin cancer. Therefore, these lesions are considered pre-cancerous.

Treatments for actinic keratosis

Contour TRL, MicroLaserPeel®, NanoLaserPeel™

Acne and Acne Scarring

Acne is a skin condition characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, or nodules. In severe, chronic cases, permanent acne scarring is common.

Double chin

A double chin often appears with age, but it can also be caused by genetics, making it extremely difficult to get rid of with diet and exercise. A double chin creates a less than desirable facial profile, and can cause you to look much older and heavier than you are.

Double chin treatments

Kybella®, liposuction, LPG Endermologie

Additional Skin Conditions

Facial veins

Facial veins (spider veins, broken capillaries, telangiectasias, and spider angiomas) are dilated blood vessels. These visible broken capillaries can have a considerable impact on your appearance — particularly when they develop on the face. Dozens of tiny veins twist, dilate, and break, creating red, bruise-like spots on the face. Unlike bruises, however, broken capillaries don’t heal and disappear over time.

Enlarged pores

Your skin has millions of pores that allow the oil made by the oil glands (sebum) to move through and then onto your face. Occasionally, pores become enlarged to allow for more oil to flow through. This enlargement can affect the aesthetic appearance of your skin, and enlarged pores are not easily treated by over-the-counter products.

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of an area of your skin, and is caused by an increase in melanin. Hyperpigmentation may be caused by sun damage, inflammation, or other skin injuries, including those related to acne vulgaris. People with darker Asian, Mediterranean, or African skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation, especially if they have excess sun exposure. Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation found on some women due to changes in hormone levels.

Loose skin

Loose skin occurs as a normal part of aging. As we get older, our skin loses its collagen, which results in the thinning of the skin. You may have a disruption in the elastic structures in the skin, which leads to a loss in skin resiliency and the skin becoming lax. Loose skin can be seen anywhere on the face, including the upper and lower eyelids. We can help you experience a dramatic improvement in loose skin in any of these areas with our treatments. For severe skin laxity, surgery may be the best option.

Pigmented lesions

There are many types of skin lesions that have increased pigment, and those that are benign that can be treated very successfully. These can range from age spots, freckles, birthmarks, and melasma. A consultation with the Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery will help determine if your concerning lesion is treatable by our in-office treatments. Malignant pigmented lesions, such as melanoma, are not to be treated by these modalities.

Dull, dry, unevenly toned skin

Your complexion may appear dull, unevenly toned, or may have hyperpigmented areas due to the aging process. A poor diet or smoking can also lead to dull, lackluster skin. Furthermore, a buildup of dead skin cells can leave your skin looking older, losing its natural, youthful glow. These issues are not easily resolved with over-the-counter remedies, even the most expensive brands.

Premature skin aging

An array of environmental and lifestyle factors affect skin quality. Some things we can’t do anything about, while other factors are more under our control. While aging is inevitable, you can keep your skin looking refreshed and youthful with the right treatments. With time, we all will develop visible lines on our face, and see the youthful, firm, fullness diminishing, with the skin becoming thinner and drier. Your genes largely control when these changes occur. The medical term for this type of aging is “intrinsic aging”. Research has established that BBL BroadBand Light can delay the aging process.

Scientific evidence demonstrates regular maintenance treatments using ForeverYoung BBL can restore the youthful quality to aging skin. Results of a Stanford University study published in The Wall Street Journal reveal over 1,000 gene expressions became “rejuvenated” to be more like youthful skin, resulting in improved elasticity and more uniform collagen deposition with improvements in fine wrinkles and pigmentation.

Scars

Visible scars can be the result of surgery, trauma, or skin conditions such as acne. Some types of scars affect your appearance and draw the attention of others, which can be embarrassing. When scars are wider, darker, reddish, or raised, they are very visible and distracting. Some displeasing scars need to be treated by surgical excision and meticulous skin closure, while others can be made far less visible with non-surgical treatment. Scars can never be completely removed, and any procedure that involves making incisions in the skin will result in a post-surgical scar.

Sun spots

Sun spots (solar lentigines) are a common skin problem. They appear as a flat brown or black portion of the skin, and develop as a result of prolonged exposure to UV rays. Sun spots are also referred to as “liver spots” or “age spots”, and can vary in size, shape, and color. People of all ages can develop sun spots, and they often appear in the areas most exposed to the sun. This includes the face, hands, arms, chest, legs, and back.

Uneven skin tone

Uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation) is the result of an overproduction of melanin (colored pigment). This condition can occur over time due to excessive sun exposure, hormonal changes, or are inflammatory in nature. The result is skin with a markedly uneven tone, appearing reddened, spotty, or with varying skin colors.

Uneven skin texture

A buildup of dead skin cells often causes uneven or poor skin texture over time. This build-up can lead to uneven texture, bumpy or scaly skin, large pores, fine lines, wrinkles, and a dull complexion. Changes in skin texture can also develop as one aspect of the normal aging process or be caused by excessive sun exposure, hormonal influences, or smoking.

Unwanted hair on face or body

Unwanted hair is a common complaint. Excess hair can grow on the upper lip, chin, cheeks, back, legs, fingers, feet, and toes. Excessive hair growth can be the result of many factors, including genetics, certain medications such as steroids, higher levels of certain hormones, and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Vascular lesions

Vascular lesions appear in many forms. These skin flaws may be benign lesions such as cherry angiomas, venous malformations, port wine stains, hemangiomas, and rosacea.

Wrinkles, lines, and skin creases

Over time, your skin will become thinner and drier, and as collagen production declines with age, the skin loses its youthful elasticity, causing sagging skin and the development of lines and wrinkles. Fine lines and wrinkles appear around the eyes, mouth, nose, and chin.

Cellulite

Cellulite is a rough, bumpy, and dimpled appearance on the surface of the skin that detracts from its smoothness, tightness, and beauty. Often compared to an orange peel-like texture, cellulite affects an estimated 9 out of 10 women and occurs more frequently in women than it does in men due to the unique arrangement of tough fibrous tissue that tether the skin to the muscle below it. Cellulite most often occurs on the female buttocks, thighs, and upper arms as a result of hormonal, genetic, dietary, or lifestyle factors. By addressing and breaking up these tough fibrous bands of tissue through a variety of approaches, it is possible to greatly reduce the appearance of cellulite or to clear it up entirely.
