What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation or breast enhancement is a surgical procedure to create fuller, rounder, larger breasts that appear more youthful and feminine. Dr. Lind uses saline, silicone, or gummy bear implants to enhance the bust, increasing your cup size and giving you the option to enjoy all your favorite evening wear, tops, lingerie, and swimwear. The procedure can be combined with a breast lift, if needed, to comprehensively reshape and rejuvenate the upper body.

Why have breast augmentation?

After pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding, the breasts may look deflated and depleted, necessitating a cosmetic intervention. Some women have naturally small breasts due to genetics and would like to increase their cup size with a natural-looking breast enlargement procedure. Others may have experienced massive weight loss and would like some help reshaping the chest.

Dr. Lind at the Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery located in Spring, Tx adjacent to The Woodlands in the Houston area provides safe, technologically advanced solutions for body contouring and can help you to look and feel like the best version of yourself possible.

Who is an ideal candidate for breast augmentation?

Anyone looking to enhance the appearance of their breasts will be considered for Dr. Lind's breast augmentation surgery in Houston, TX, provided they are physically and mentally healthy and are free from any significant medical concerns that would interfere with their treatment or recovery process. Patients should be non-smokers with a realistic and positive attitude toward their outcome. This is based on a private consultation near your location in Houston with Dr. Lind and his team, who will carefully go over your medical history and perform an in-depth physical evaluation.

What are the different types of breast implants available?

Saline

Saline implants are filled with sterilized saltwater and can be inserted empty through very small incisions. In the event of rupture, the saline solution is harmlessly absorbed by the body and discarded as waste. Saline implants are FDA-approved for patients over 18 years of age.

Silicone

Silicone implants contain silicone gel inside a silicone shell. They typically are chosen for their highly natural look and feel. Women will need to undergo regular ultrasound or MRI testing to ensure there is no leakage since a ruptured silicone implant is difficult to detect. Silicone implants are approved by the FDA for women over the age of 22.

Gummy bear

Gummy bear implants are made with a form-stable, cohesive gel that allows them to hold their shape even if the outer shell is compromised. Gummy bears are firmer than conventional silicone implants and have an attractive teardrop shape that many women find highly authentic.

What are the different styles of breast implants?

Round implants

Round implants can help create the impression of a fuller bust with more cleavage. The higher the profile, the more projection. Implant rotation is not typically a concern with these types of devices.

Smooth implants

Smooth implants create a softer, more natural feel. They move organically with the breast capsule, giving the impression of authentic motion.

Textured implants

Textured implants may help to minimize the risk of developing tight scarring in the breast pocket. They are less likely to migrate or suffer from implant malposition.

How do I choose the best-sized breast implants?

While the correct size of implant is ultimately a personal choice, input from your breast surgeon, your friends, and your family can all be helpful. Factors such as your activity level, your frame, and your desired cup size will all play a role in helping to determine your choice. You will want to think about how you will feel about your implants 5 or 10 years down the line. Additionally, it’s good to consider your wardrobe and whether you wish to wear revealing tops and swimwear or go braless.

Dr. Lind has years of expertise when it comes to helping women choose the right implants for their unique goals, and he will assist you in evaluating your options. It is often possible to “try on” your implants beneath your blouse during your consultation in our Houston office, so you can see firsthand how the chest may appear after surgery.  If you are within reach or close to the Houston greater area, you can schedule an in person consultation. For those farther away, we offer virtual consultation, no matter far away you are, distance is never an issue.

The Inframammary Fold Incision

With the Inframammary fold incision, the incision is made at the base of the breasts within the crease where it is well-hidden. Many surgeons prefer this approach, as it affords them the most flexibility and precision. In addition, it helps to preserve nipple sensitivity and breastfeeding ability after surgery. The incision can be reused later if revisions are needed.

How are implants placed?

Subglandular

Here, the implant is placed beneath the breast mound and above the pec muscles. An advantage is that the recovery process is less painful since the chest muscles are not affected by the surgery. However, this approach may not be viable for women who have thin breast tissue, as it may not be possible to sufficiently conceal the implants.

Submuscular

Placing the implants beneath the pec muscles can help prevent the appearance of implant rippling, reduce palpability, and lower the risk of capsular contracture. The disadvantage of this technique is that it may involve a slightly longer recovery period.

What will the breast augmentation procedure be like?

Anesthesia

Anesthesia will be administered to ensure you are completely comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure. You will choose from general anesthesia or IV sedation.

The incision

Dr. Lind does everything possible to minimize your postoperative scarring. He will go over the different incision choices with you prior to surgery and explain the pros and cons of each option.

Inserting the implants

Dr. Lind will place the implants within the breast pockets either beneath the pec muscles (submuscular) or above the pec muscles (subglandular) according to your treatment plan.

Closing the incisions

Dr. Lind will then close your incisions with layered sutures and surgical tape. You will then be placed in the recovery suite.
