Breast Lift in Houston

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a cosmetic procedure used to lift and reshape breasts that are no longer firm, plump, and youthful, or have sagged due to age and/or pregnancy. A breast lift in Houston at the Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery is a customized surgical procedure that restores a youthful, taut, firm, perky look to your breasts. This procedure is sometimes combined with breast augmentation to give the best cosmetic outcome.

What is a breast lift?

At the Lind Institute of Plastic Surgery, our breast lift procedures are 100% customized to achieve the lifted, more youthful look you want. A breast lift generally takes two to three hours to complete.

The procedure involves removing extra skin from the breasts, lifting and re-shaping the breast tissue to restore symmetry and roundness, and repositioning the nipple structure to a more attractive position (centered on the newly-reshaped breast mound). Overly large or stretched nipples and areolas can be altered in size to enhance the new proportions of the breasts.

Restore a youthful look to your breasts

Many women experience issues such as breast sagging or uneven breast sizes. These changes can be the result of heredity, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, breastfeeding, aging, or gravity. Fortunately, a breast lift has the ability to greatly improve these areas of concern.

Before & After

Who is the ideal candidate for a breast lift?

It is essential that you feel confident about your body. After restoring your breast shape, you could experience a dramatic increase in self-esteem. In considering undergoing a surgical procedure, you need to understand what to expect in preparation, surgery, recovery, and results. We will take all the time you need to discuss your questions and concerns in a private consultation at our luxury clinic in North Houston. You may be an ideal candidate for a breast lift in Houston if you are unhappy with any of the following breast conditions:

  • Pendulous breasts
  • Breasts lacking in firmness
  • Downward-pointing nipples
  • Breasts that are asymmetrical in shape or size
  • Overlarge or misshapen nipples/areolas
  • Breasts that have dropped lower on the chest wall
  • Stretched skin that has allowed your breasts to sink lower

Breast lift incisions

The type and location of the incisions for your procedure will be discussed in your consultation with Dr. Lind. The number and placement of the incisions reflect the quantity of breast tissue that needs to be re-shaped or lifted. The types of incisions that may be necessary include:

Anchor incision

This is the appropriate surgical approach for women who need to have more extensive changes to the breast tissue. The incision is in an “anchor” shape, extending around the perimeter of the areola, with a vertical incision at the bottom of the nipple structure and a curved horizontal incision placed within the breast crease.

Lollipop incision (vertical breast lift)

This incision pattern is appropriate for women who have moderate breast sagging. The incision is placed around the perimeter of the areola and then vertically to the breast crease.

Donut incision (periareolar)

This incision is made around the perimeter of the areola, and is appropriate for women with less extensive sagging.

Crescent incision

Appropriate for women with minor sagging issues, a crescent-shaped incision is removed at the top border of the areola.

After the breast tissue is re-shaped and lifted, the incisions are closed with sutures that are all buried, and will not need to be removed.

What is the recovery time after a breast lift?

Following your Houston breast lift, you will need to wear a surgical bra to support the healing of breast tissues. The bra must be worn for six weeks. You should plan on missing three to five days of work and should be able to get back to strenuous exercise in six weeks, once cleared by Dr. Lind.

Does a breast lift change the size of my breasts?

Breast lift surgery alone won’t significantly change the size of your breasts — only their shape. You’d need to combine it with either breast reduction surgery or breast augmentation to do that. Depending on your goal, Dr. Lind will discuss with you the option to add implants at the time of lifting to achieve more overall fullness and size.

How long will my breast lift last?

This procedure is designed to “turn back the clock” and resuspend the breasts to a more youthful, compact location on the chest wall. With that being said, there are many factors that can affect this for each patient. It is recommended to always wear good support to keep gravity from taking over as it naturally does. Also, should you gain or lose weight over time, this can also affect the results of a breast lift.

Are the nipples removed during a breast lift?

During a breast lift, the excess skin is removed and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped to a more youthful appearance. The nipples are not removed. In fact, they stay attached to a stalk of breast tissue that is also lifted and tightened with sutures. At this time, the areolas (darker skin around the nipples) can be resized and centered to compliment the new location of the breast.

When will the scars fade?

The anchor incision of a breast lift requires a scar around the areola, a vertical line down the center and in the natural breast fold. During the healing process, the scar can be prominent the first couple months and start to fade to a natural skin tone color between 6 to 12 months. We do offer a great scar cream to help expedite this healing process.
